Davenport Makes Kiwi Tourney Semis


Former world No.1 women's tennis player Lindsay Davenport of the United States has continued her comeback to tennis by making the semifinals of the ASB Classic tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.

Davenport scored her 16th win against only one loss since having a baby with a 57-minute victory over Italy's Sara Errani, 6-3, 6-3.

In the semifinals, Davenport plays 17-year-old Austrian Tamira Paszek, who defeated second-seeded Maria Kirilenko of Russia 6-1, 6-3.

New Zealand's wild card Marina Erakovic delighted home fans by making the semifinals with a three-set win over top-seeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia (6-3, 2-6, 7-5). The 153rd-ranked Erakovic plays France's Aravane Rezai in the semifinals. Rezai scored a 6-1, 6-3 win over third-seeded Karatina Srebotnik of Slovenia.

The tournament is one of several events players are using to prepare for the Australian Open, which starts January 14th in Melbourne.
