A powerful blast at what officials in Istanbul say is an unlicensed fireworks factory has killed at least 20 people.
Authorities say a small explosion and blaze appear to have triggered a larger blast at the plant Thursday. Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler said the explosion appears to be accidental.
Parts of the five-story building were destroyed in the blast. The force of the explosion damaged neighboring buildings in the industrial area, and showered debris on cars parked on the street below.
Rescue and medical workers at the site are working to save several people trapped under the rubble. Officials say at least 100 people were injured.
