NATO, Afghan Troops Kill Dozens of Militants in Afghanistan

Security officials in Afghanistan say NATO and Afghan forces have killed more than 40 insurgents in a joint air and ground operation in the south of the country.

The Afghan Defense Ministry Sunday said troops also seized a cache of weapons during the operation in Uruzgan province Saturday.

In northern Jowzjan province, authorities say militants killed at least five Afghans who were working to clear mines.

Elsewhere, the U.S.-led military coalition in Afghanistan said a roadside bomb killed two coalition soldiers in the southern province of Kandahar.

The coalition said the soldiers were conducting a security patrol with Afghan forces Saturday when their vehicle struck a mine planted on a busy road. Coalition officials did not release the soldiers' nationalities.
