This month's spectacular fires are making international news. Wildfires in Australia and a large hotel fire in China have left death and destruction.
In the U.S. fire safety officials are engaged in an extensive study on firefighter response.
The goal of the study is to help local governments decide, in the midst of a deep recession, what they can cut from public safety budgets and what must be preserved.
