The young pitcher who threw the first-ever perfect game in Little League Baseball World Series history has led his team into the semifinals.
Danny Almonte of the Bronx, New York allowed only a first-inning single and struck out 16 batters to led his team to a 1-0 victory Thursday night over Oceanside, California. He struck out the side in five of the six innings. The 12-year-old's pitches reached 124 kilometers per hour.
The Bronx will face Apopka, Florida on Saturday to determine which team will reach Sunday's final against the international representative.
The team from Curacao in Netherlands Antilles plays Tokyo, Japan in the other semifinal. Curacao took advantage of a poor defensive fifth inning by Guam Central to take a 4-3 victory Thursday. Guam had been the only team unbeaten in the international bracket in round-robin play.
