Volleyball: Cuba Beats Brazil - 2001-11-23


Cuba's men's volleyball team has defeated defending champion Brazil, 3-2, at the six-nation Men's Grand Champions Cup round-robin tournament in Tokyo, Japan.

Cuba remains the only unbeaten team in the tournament after defeating the Brazilians 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11. Leonel Marshall scored 23 points and Angel Dennis added 18 for the Cubans in the two-hour, five-game match.

In other action Friday, Olympic champion Yugoslavia defeated Argentina, 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 21-11, 25-18). South Korea shut out host country Japan, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 27-25). Cuba leads the tournament with six points. Brazil is in second place with five points while Yugoslavia is in third place.

Cuba has matches against Japan and Argentina and looks set to take the trophy and the top prize money of $400,000.
