German Slider Wins Wolrd Cup Luge Event in Oberhof


German slider Silke Kraushaar has won a World Cup women's luge event in Oberhof, Germany, and strengthened her lead in the overall standings.

Kraushaar finished with a combined time one minute, 23.093 seconds for an average speed of more than 109 kilometers per hour. Countrywoman Sylke Otto was second, more than one-quarter second back. Austrian Angelika Neuner finished third, nearly seven-10ths of one second behind Kraushaar.

The German slider remains the overall World Cup leader with 385 points. Otto is in second place, 30 points back. Neuner is in third place overall with 296 points. The men's and doubles competitions are Sunday.
