India's men's field hockey team has defeated South Africa, 2-1 to win the Champions Challenge tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Deepak Thakur scored the first goal for India in the ninth minute. India scored its second goal in the 55th minute when Daljit Singh Dillon got past South African Chris Hibbert. The South Africans scored their only goal of the contest when Denzil Dolley charged through India's defense to score.
In the third place game, Argentina defeated Malaysia, 4-2. Japan defeated Belgium, 5-3, in the fifth place game.
India's win gives it a place among the top six teams in men's field hockey at the Champion's Trophy Challenge in Cologne, Germany next year.
