Hockey: Philadelphia Flyers Defeat Atlanta Thrashers 7-4 - 2002-01-09


Jiri Dopita scored four goals to tie a team record, as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the visiting Atlanta Thrashers 7-4 in National Hockey League action.

Dopita, who also had an assist, is playing his first NHL season after leading his team to five league championships in the Czech Republic. He had scored only two goals in his previous 25 games with the Flyers.

In Pittsburgh, Sergei Samsonov, Joe Thornton and Glen Murray each scored a goal, as the Boston Bruins beat the host Penguins 3-2.

Samsonov, who had a goal and two assists, scored the game winner in the third period. The Bruins have won eight of the last 10 games.

Meanwhile, Mats Sundin scored twice to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-3 home victory over the Nashville Predators.
