Oxford Defeats Cambridge in University Boat Race - 2002-03-30

Oxford's rowing crew has staged a dramatic, come-from-behind win over Cambridge in the 148th University Boat Race, with the Dark Blues winning by two thirds of a length.

Cambridge appeared to have the race won, but then Oxford made a late charge and Cambridge could not answer at the end of the 6.8 kilometer stretch of the Thames. Oxford finished in 16:54 with Cambridge across in 16:56.

Saturday's victory was the Oxford Dark Blues second in the last 10 years. Overall Cambridge has a total of 77 victories to the Dark Blues' 70. There was one dead heat in 1877.
