Bobb, Scott - 2002-04-09


Scott Bobb has been with VOA since 1977 when he joined as a writer/editor and on-air host in the English to Africa Branch. He has been a VOA foreign correspondent since 1982. His first assignment was covering West and Central Africa from the VOA bureau in Abidjan. He was assigned to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1985, and covered South America for five years.

In 1990, he was posted to Nairobi, Kenya, as East Africa Correspondent. From 1993 until 1997, he served in management at VOA headquarters in Washington, first as Chief of Correspondents and subsequently as News Division Chief. He returned to the field in 1998 as Middle East Correspondent, based in Cairo, and from there he moved to Bangkok.

Scott grew up in central Africa and speaks a number of languages, including French, Spanish, Portuguese and Lingala. He has also studied Swahili and Arabic.

Scott is the author of a reference book on the Democratic Republic of Congo, the second edition of which was published in 1999.

Scott's leisure activities include reading, photography, scuba diving and other watersports, and running.
