U.S. Thoroughbred racing continues its preparations for next month's Kentucky Derby Saturday with the Blue Grass Stakes and the Wood Memorial races for three-year-olds.
In Lexington, Kentucky, the Blue Grass Stakes features two of the early favorites for Churchill Downs, "Booklet" and "Harlan's Holiday." Booklet beat Harlan's Holiday in the Holy Bull Stakes and the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Florida's Gulfstream Park last month.
Harlan's Holiday beat Booklet in the Florida Derby. Harlan's Holiday has run nine races, won five and finished second in four others.
Meanwhile the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct RaceTrack in New York will feature San Felipe Stakes winner "Medaglia d'Oro". The favorite at Aqueduct could be "Saarland", whose sire was 1990 Kentucky Derby winner "Unbridled." Saarland has won two of his five starts this year.
The races are part of preparations for the Kentucky Derby, the first of U.S. Horse Racing's Triple Crown races, May fourth at Churchill Downs, Kentucky.
