update

Finnish tennis player Jarkko Nieminen and Argentina's Gaston Gaudio have advanced to the finals of the Palma de Mallorca clay-court tennis tournament in Spain.

Nieminen, the fourth seed, defeated Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina in straight sets: 6-1, 6-3. Gaudio overcame a first set loss to defeat fifth-seeded countryman Agustin Calleri in three sets: 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The tournament is a key warm-up for the French Open, which gets under way later this month in Paris.

Russian tennis player Mikhail Youzhny has reached the first tournament final of his career and will face German Rainer Schuettler at the BMW Open tournament in Munich.

Youzhny scored a three set win over sixth seeded Moroccan Younes El Aynaoui: 6-4, 5-7, 7-6. The 19-year-old Russian takes on Schuettler, who scored a straight set win over Radek Stepanek of The Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3.

Schuettler is looking to become the first German to win the Munich event since Michael Stich in 1994. The tournament champion receives more than $48,000.
