Man Accused of Stalking Serena Williams Arrested at Wimbledon

A German student accused of stalking American tennis player Serena Williams has been arrested in London after crashing his bicycle into a police camera crew at Wimbledon.

Thirty-four-year-old Albrecht Stromeyer was arrested Wednesday after he was riding a bicycle close to the All England Club. Police ordered him to stop but he refused and as he tried to escape crashed into the police officers and damaged a camera.

Stromeyer was charged with breach of the peace and criminal damage and ordered to stay out of trouble or face a fine. Williams and other U.S. players are under increased security because of terrorist threats connected with the American July 4 Independence Day.

Stromeyer has a history of following Serena Williams. In May he was extradited from Italy to face charges of stalking. He has also tried to gain entrance to the player's hotel room and has approached the Williams family at tournaments.

Security for women's players has been increased since 1993, when an obsessed fan stabbed former world number one Monica Seles at a tournament in Germany.
