Reilly Resigns as VOA Chief - 2002-08-30

Robert Reilly has resigned as director of the Voice of America, saying he will seek new opportunities to help the Bush administration in its war on terrorism.

Mr. Reilly made the announcement Thursday. In accepting Mr. Reilly's resignation, Broadcasting Board of Governors Chairman Kenneth Tomlinson said the board appreciates Mr. Reilly's stewardship of VOA during events following September 11.

Mr. Reilly has been replaced by veteran Time magazine foreign correspondent and journalist David Jackson.

Mr. Jackson retired from Time last year and took the post as editor-in-chief of DefendAmerica.Gov, the Defense Department's principal website devoted to news on the war on terrorism.

Mr. Jackson says he looks forward to working with VOA journalists to carry on and enhance VOA's worldwide reputation.
