A Saudi passenger wielding a gun attempted to hijack a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight leaving Sudan Tuesday. The plane returned to Khartoum where the man was arrested.
Saudi security officers foiled the hijack attempt on the flight bound from Khartoum to the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah.
Statements by the Sudanese authorities and Saudi Arabian Airlines indicate no one was injured in the incident. No motivation for the attempted hijacking was mentioned in either statement.
The Airbus 300 aircraft was carrying about 200 passengers and crew members.
One Western news agency quotes a spokesmen for Sudan's interior ministry as saying the plane was searched for explosives but none were found.
The aircraft, crew and passengers were to resume their journey to Saudi Arabia.
