In Hawaii, South African golf star Ernie Els is off to a record-breaking start this PGA season. Ernie set a new 72-hole, PGA scoring record in winning the season-opening Mercedes Championship in Kapalua.
Els completed four rounds on the par-73 course at 31 under par, 261. The 33-year-old South African finished eight strokes ahead of K.J. Choi of South Korea and Rocco Mediate of the United States. That's the widest margin of victory on the PGA tour in two years.
Ernie won $1 million for his 11th career victory on the PGA Tour. Els has also won eight times worldwide over the last 13 months, including a victory in the British Open for his third major.
