Fidel Castro has replaced a key minister as part of a major reshuffling of his cabinet.
In a brief statement released in Havana Saturday, Finance Minister Manuel Millares Rodriguez was replaced by Central Bank Vice President Georgina Barreiro Fajardo. Cuban Transportation Minister Alvaro Perez Morales was replaced in a similar manner on Friday. There was no reason given for the replacement of either minister.
The Communist country is still recovering from a severe economic recession in 1990, following the withdrawal of former Soviet subsidies worth up to $6 billion annually.
