NBA Star Bryant: 'I Am Innocent' - 2003-07-13

update

National Basketball Association star Kobe Bryant has declared his innocence in the alleged sexual assault of a 19-year-old Colorado woman at a resort near Vail, Colorado.

Bryant made his first public comments about the case in an interview published Sunday by the Los Angeles Times. In the words of the 24-year-old Lakers star, "When everything comes clean, it will all be fine, you'll see." He was also quoted as saying, "You know I would never do anything like that."

Bryant was arrested on suspicion of felony sexual assault in Eagle County, Colorado, on July 4. He turned himself in and was released after posting a $25,000 bond. The woman accused him of attacking her on June 30, during his stay at the resort Lodge and Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, Colorado.

Prosecutors still have not decided whether to press formal charges against Bryant. Eagle County Colorado District Attorney Mark Hurlbert is still evaluating the evidence and says he expects to decide whether to proceed with the case this week.
