Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has recognized Irish actor Pierce Brosnan, making him an honorary officer of the Order of the British Empire.
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw announced the award, which cites the actor for his contribution to drama and the British film industry.
The foreign secretary called Brosnan's numerous starring roles, particularly in four James Bond films, factors that added style and glamour to the image of Britain abroad. Mr. Straw also noted the actor's contribution to charitable causes as an ambassador for women's health issues and as a special patron of the United Nations Children's Fund in Ireland.
The award is conferred by the Queen on the recommendation of Britain's Foreign Office. Britain's ambassador to Ireland will present the award to Brosnan in Dublin Saturday.
