In women's tennis, French Open tennis champion Justine Henin-Hardenne will take on ninth seed Elena Dementieva of Russia Saturday in the semifinals of the Rogers AT&T Cup tournament in Toronto, Canada.
The second seeded Belgian beat 12th-seeded Elena Bovina of Russia 6-2, 6-4 Friday to advance. Dementieva came from behind to oust third seed Amelie Mauresmo of France in a three set match 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Argentina's Paola Suarez and Lina Krasnoroutskaya of Russia will play in the other semifinal match Saturday.
Suarez upset 10th seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Krasnoroutskaya advanced after rallying to a three set win over Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Veteran American tennis player Monica Seles has withdrawn from the U.S. Open in New York scheduled to begin August 25 due to a foot injury.
She is still troubled by a hurt left foot that has sidelined her since May and could end her career.
Seles has won nine Grand Slam titles in her career, including U.S. Opens in 1991 and 1992. She has not played a competitive match this year since losing in the first round of the French Open.
