update

Australian golfer Marcus Fraser defeated Martin Wiegele of Austria on the second extra hole of a sudden-death playoff, to win the Russian Open tournament in Nakhabino on Sunday.

The two players finished the 72 regulation holes tied at 19-under 269, three strokes ahead of Peter Hanson of Sweden in third place. Both player birdied the first playoff hole. But Fraser won the event and his first European Tour title when Wiegele bogeyed and he parred the second playoff hole.

Fraser has already won two Challenge Tour events in his first year since turning professional. His victory in Moscow earned him an immediate promotion to the European Tour this year and an exemption to the tour in 2004.
