After posting an upset victory, unseeded American James Blake will face top seed Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand Sunday in the finals of the T.D. Waterhouse men's tennis tournament. Blake crushed number seven Younes El Ayanoui of Morocco 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday in the semi-finals of the event in Commack, New York. The tournament is a warm-up to the U.S. Open, which begins Monday in New York.
Srichaphan also cruised to victory, defeating unseeded Nicolas Kiefer of Germany, 6-0, 6-2.
Jennifer Capriati has won her first tournament in 19 months by taking the Pilot Pen Classic tennis tournament in New Haven, Connecticut.
Third seed Capriati won the title when her fellow-American opponent, top seed Lindsay Davenport, retired in the second set with a foot injury. Capriati's last tournament title was last year's Australian Open.
She is seeded sixth at the upcoming U.S. Open, and will play Cristina Torrens Valero of Spain in the first round. Davenport is seeded third at the Open, and is scheduled to play Els Callens of Belgium. Capriati has never won the U.S. Open. Davenport took the title at Flushing Meadows in 1998.
