Fed Cup Tennis: Belgium to Face US Without Top Players - 2003-10-07


The Belgian Fed Cup tennis team will be without the world's two top-ranked women players when it takes on the United States in the tournament semifinals next month in Moscow.

World number one Kim Clijsters is still troubled by an ankle injury, while French and U.S. Open champion Justine Henin-Hardenne, ranked second, has a back injury.

Veteran Els Callens, ranked 84th, will lead the Belgian team along with Caroline Maes, who is ranked 243rd in the world. The other semifinal is between Russia and France. The semifinals are scheduled for Moscow November 19. The finals are the weekend of November 22.
