MLB: Red Sox Lead American League Championship Series - 2003-10-09


The Boston Red Sox have taken a one game to none lead in their best-of-seven American League baseball championship series against the rival New York Yankees.

Tim Wakefield pitched six innings of two-hit ball and three Boston players homered as the Red Sox beat the Yankees, 5-2, Wednesday in New York.

Manny Ramirez, Todd Walker and David Ortiz homered for Boston. Game 2 is Thursday, in New York. Andy Pettitte pitches for the Yankees against Boston's Derek Lowe.

In the National League championship series, the Chicago Cubs evened their series with the Florida Marlins at one game apiece, routing Florida, 12-3, in Wednesday's Game 2.

Alex Gonzalez hit two homers for the Cubs, while Sammy Sosa and Aramis Ramirez also went deep. Cubs pitcher Mark Prior allowed three runs and struck out five in seven-plus innings of work.
