A Romanian soldier serving in Afghanistan is dead and another wounded in an attack on their convoy in Kandahar Province.
The attack occurred Tuesday as Romanian soldiers were returning to their base near the town of Spin Boldak.
This is the first Romanian soldier killed since the Eastern European country sent forces to join the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan.
The source of the attack remains unclear.
Romania has more than 400 troops deployed in Afghanistan as part of an international coalition helping the transitional government provide security for much of the war-ravaged country. Attacks on coalition forces have increased in recent weeks.
