IOC to Test for New Steroid - 2003-11-12

update

International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge says frozen urine samples from the 2002 Winter Olympics will be tested for the newly discovered steroid THG. Anti-doping officials in the United States recently discovered the previously undetectable substance (tetrahydrogestrinone) after an anonymous coach sent a syringe containing the substance to an Olympic-accredited laboratory in Los Angeles. The IOC must determine if the frozen samples, some as old as three years, are still good for testing. The IOC has already confirmed plans to test for T-H-G at next year's Athens Olympics. Most international sports bodies will also be testing for the drug.
