World number one women's golfer Annika Sorenstam has swept past the field of elite players to take a three-shot lead into Sunday's final round of the ADT Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Sorenstam overcame an eye infection that affected her play in earlier rounds to post a five-under-par 67 Saturday on the difficult Trump International course.
Her three-round total of five-under (211) is three shots better than Americans Meg Mallon and Cristie Kerr.
Mallon had shared the lead with Laura Davies of Britain after two rounds. Davies flew to a disastrous 81 Saturday in a round that included triple and double bogies, before suffering an eight on the par three 17th hole where she put two shots in the water.
South Korean Se Ri Pak appeared to be keeping pace with Sorenstam, but two shots in the water gave her a quadruple-bogey (seven) on one hole. Pak is tied with American Beth Daniel for fourth place, four shots off the lead in the tournament featuring the top 30 money winners on the LPGA tour.
