Pakistan Hands Germany 1st Defeat in Sultan Azlan Shah Field Hockey Cup

The men's field hockey team from Pakistan has handed world champion Germany its first defeat in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Sohail Abbas led the defending champion Pakistanis in their thrilling 4-3 win, scoring their first three goals (in the 42nd, 51st and 59th minutes). But it was Muhammad Nadeem who sealed the win in the back-and-forth match with a goal in the 65th minute.

Pakistan, which upset Germany in last year's final at this tournament, is now 4-0. Germany falls to 3-1.

In Monday's other game, two goals by Troy Elder helped Australia beat Malaysia, 3-2. It was the Aussies' first win after a draw and a loss. Host Malaysia has two draws and two losses.
