The U.S. women's soccer (football) team has defeated Norway, 4-1, to win the Algarve Cup tournament in Portugal for the third time in five years.
U.S. forward Abby Wambach, the 2003 Female Athlete of the Year in the United States, had three goals in the match. Wambach now has 23 international goals, including nine this year.
The other U.S. score came from Lindsay Tarpley on an assist from Wambach.
Norway's Hege Riise scored her country's only goal. In the third place game, France defeated Italy, 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out. The U.S. women were the defending champions at the Portuguese tournament. The Americans also won the Algarve Cup title in 2000.
