The Bush Administration says it plans to declassify an intelligence memo on al-Qaida that was prepared a few weeks before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
White House officials say the memo could be released Friday, after officials make sure the move does not compromise any intelligence sources.
The commission investigating the 2001 attacks has formally requested that the White House make the memo public.
While questioning U.S. National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice on Thursday, commission members revealed the memo's title, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States."
The memo was given to President Bush on August 6, 2001. Ms. Rice told the 10-member panel that the memo was "not a warning" of an imminent attack.
She also said there was no single thing that could have been done to prevent the attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people.
Friday, the commission says it met privately with former Vice President Al Gore. The 10-member panel met with former President Bill Clinton on Thursday. It described both men as as "forthcoming," in their testimony, but did not release any details.
President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have agreed to meet jointly with the commission sometime in coming weeks.
