The wife of former President Bill Clinton has confirmed that her husband has been hospitalized and will undergo heart surgery.
Hillary Rodham Clinton, a U.S. senator from New York, made the announcement during a speech before a group of supporters Friday. Mrs. Clinton says her husband was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath. She says his doctors asked him to come back to the hospital Friday for more tests.
The 58-year-old former president has been admitted to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
During a campaign stop in Wisconsin today, President Bush wished his predecessor "a swift and speedy recovery" and asked the crowd to pray for him. Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry also acknowledged Mr. Clinton's hospitalization during a campaign speech in Ohio.
