International relief workers are appealing for more aid to help Haiti and the Bahamas recover from Tropical Storm Jeanne, which lashed both countries last month.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies issued the appeal Tuesday. Officials say Haiti needs $9.2 million to avert a humanitarian crisis.
They say the scale of the disaster in Haiti is so great that emergency relief will be required for several months to come.
Officials say that in the Haitian city of Gonaives, some 200,000 people lost homes, belongings or livelihoods because of the storm. Jeanne caused widespread flooding in the area and left hundreds dead.
The Red Cross officials say the Bahamas needs almost $1 million for relief supplies.
