David Beckham scored a goal for England, but was later shown a yellow card for a foul and will have to miss England's next qualifier against Azerbaijan on Wednesday. Beckham had a previous yellow card from a match against Austria last month.
Meanwhile, Norway scored a 1-0 win over Scotland on Steffen Iversen's 55th minute penalty kick. In group one, Finland scored a 3-1 win over Armenia.
Russia defeated Luxembourg, 4-0, Sweden downed Hungary, 3-0 and the Czech Republic defeated Romania, 1-0.
In African qualifying, Botswana beat Kenya, 2-1, in a second stage qualifier. Rwanda and Algeria played to a 1-1 draw and Malawi and Tunisa tied, 2-2.
