Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Explore Joint Arms Production Possibilities - 2004-10-11

Pakistan's defense ministry says it is exploring the possibilities of joint arms production with Saudi Arabia.

According to Pakistani newspaper reports, Saudi Arabia's junior minister of defense, Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, is in Islamabad where he has been holding talks with Pakistani Defense Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal.

The reports say a senior Pakistani defense production ministry official briefed the Saudi minister on ways to jointly produce armaments, including armored vehicles, missiles, and tanks. The two sides also agreed to hold joint military exercises. Riyadh and Islamabad, both fighting Islamist extremists, have close military ties.
