Explosions Rock Baghdad, Saturday - 2004-10-16

Explosions have rocked the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, leaving at least one person dead and several others wounded.

Officials say a hospital worker was killed Saturday, when a mortar round exploded outside a Baghdad hospital.

Witnesses say a rocket struck the parking lot of a hotel in central Baghdad used by foreign journalists and diplomats. There were no reports of casualties.

Earlier Saturday, bombs damaged five churches in the city. An Interior Ministry spokesman said the bombings appeared to be a coordinated attack against Iraq's small Christian community.

Elsewhere, the U.S. military says a U.S. soldier has died of wounds suffered Friday in a car bomb attack in the northern city of Mosul.
