Australia's Cricket Team Defeats South Africa

update

Australia's cricket team has defeated South Africa by 59 runs in a tri-series match in Melbourne. Phil Jaques led the attack with 94 runs, the highest score by an Australian batsman on debut in a limited-overs international.

Jaques joined the host side less than 24 hours after being called on as a replacement for the injured Simon Katich. He then opened and anchored Australia's innings of 245 after captain Ricky Ponting won the toss.

Brett Lee then returned career-best figures of five-for-22. That was the first five-wicket total by any bowler under the roof of Melbourne's Docklands Stadium, as South Africa was dismissed for 186 in 47 overs in reply.

It was sweet revenge for the Australians who had lost their previous tri-series match to the South Africans by five wickets.
