|Queen Elizabeth II and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh arrive at Buckingham Palace after attending the Trooping The Colour ceremony|
Troops and horsemen in traditional red uniforms and bearskin hats saluted the monarch at the Horseguards Parade Ground near Buckingham Palace ahead of a fly-over by Royal Air Force jets.
The queen turned 79 on April 21, but public celebrations of the monarch's birthday are always held on a Saturday in June to improve chances of good weather for the ceremonies.
Shakespearean stage and film actress Dame Judy Dench headed a list of British and Commonwealth citizens named on the Queen's Birthday Honors list. She received the title of companion of honor for her services to drama.
The list also included knighthoods for Britain's Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks and the Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain Iqbal Sacranie.
