Firefighters in Ecuador's capital, Quito, say there have been no injuries and no escapes during a raging fire at the city's second-largest prison.
Authorities say they evacuated 900 inmates to the nearby Garcia Moreno prison after the early morning blaze destroyed the building known simply as "Jail 2."
Containers of natural gas stored in the jail exploded, intensifying the blaze. Authorities say they have not determined the cause of the fire, which started in the prison's smoking section.
The prison, which was reported to be overcrowded, is in a densely-populated historic section of Quito.
