Icelander Crowned 'Miss World'


Miss Iceland, a law student and part-time police officer, has won the title of Miss World at a competition in China.

Unnur Birna Vilhjalmsdottir, 21, won the crown Saturday in the southern Chinese beach resort of Sanya. She defeated first runner-up Miss Mexico, Dafne Molina Lona and second runner-up Miss Puerto Rico, Ingrid Marie Rivera Santos.

The 102 delegates in the contest were divided into six regional groups, from which the semifinalists and finalists were selected.

In addition to Miss World and the runners-up, other finalists included Miss Tanzania Nancy Sumari, Miss Italy Sofia Bruscoli, and Miss Korea Eun Young Oh. Miss Korea was also given the "Beauty with a Purpose" award for her charitable work.
