The International Olympic Committee's executive board has recommended Bulgarian Ivan Slavkov's expulsion from the IOC for unethical conduct and tarnishing the organization's image.
The IOC general assembly has to make the final decision at its meeting in July in Singapore. Slavkov will be allowed to defend himself at that meeting.
Slavkov was suspended August 7 after a BBC television crew secretly taped him discussing how his vote could be bought for London's bid to host the 2012 Olympics. The 64-year-old Bulgarian said he knew he was being set up and played along to expose true corruption in the process.
Indonesian Mohamad "Bob" Hasan was the last IOC member expelled for corruption. South Korea's Kim Un-yong remains suspended from his position, but the IOC is awaiting his legal appeals before acting.
London is one of five cities - along with Moscow, Madrid, Paris and New York - bidding to host the 2012 Summer Games. The IOC will choose the host city next July in Singapore.
