Israeli Soldier Stabbed in West Bank

Israeli army officials say a soldier was stabbed Saturday by a Palestinian attacker in the West Bank.

Medical officials say the soldier received stab wounds in his neck, but the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The army says the attacker fled with the soldier's weapon. Israeli troops were searching for the assailant.

The attack came as Israel sealed off the Palestinian territories to prevent possible incursions by militants during the Passover holiday. The week-long festival begins at sundown Saturday.

The borders will remain closed for the first two days when Jews hold the ritual Passover feast, but police will remain on alert during the entire holiday.

Passover marks the Jewish exodus from slavery in Egypt more than 3,000 years ago.
