In a statement Friday, the palace said Prince Ernst August of Hanover has been in an intensive care unit since Tuesday, where he is undergoing tests and being monitored.
It is the second tragedy to befall Monaco's royal family in less than a week. On Wednesday, Caroline's father, Prince Rainier, died after a month-long illness. He will be buried next Friday in Monaco's Cathedral next to his American movie star wife, Grace Kelly.
Prince Ernst's sudden illness has renewed talk of an ancient curse on Monaco's royal family. Princess Caroline has certainly suffered her share of bad luck. Her first marriage ended in divorce and her second husband was killed in a speed boat accident. She married Ernst in 1999.
