Prosecutors in Serbia and Montenegro have filed charges against former National Basketball Association star Vlade Divac for evading the country's military draft.
Divac, who is now 37 years old, never served the compulsory six-month stint in the military required between the ages of 18 and 35.
The state prosecutors' office said Wednesday that it has asked Serbia and Montenegro's foreign ministry "to determine Divac's citizenship and his home address," to be able to carry out the legal proceedings and hand him the draft notice.
Divac, who holds dual citizenship in Serbia and Montenegro and the United States, ended his NBA playing career last month. He currently lives in Los Angeles, but legal experts say he could face a one-year prison sentence in his native country if he does not join the army soon or get some kind of waiver.
