Stolen Buddha Relic Returned to Burmese Temple

A replica of the Buddha's tooth has been recovered days after it was stolen from a temple in Burma.

The tooth replica was stolen from Rangoon's Swedawmyat Paya pagoda on Sunday along with the gold, jewel encrusted plate it rested on.

The thief threw away the tooth, but ran off with the plate. The suspect remains at large.

The tooth is a replica of the original relic that China lent to Burma in 1994 and 1996. A copy of the tooth was made in 1996 and put on display in the Rangoon pagoda. Another replica of the tooth is on display in the central city of Mandalay.
