Arizona Student Becomes 1st Woman to Get Div. II Football Scholarship
An Arizona high school senior made history this week when she became the first woman to receive a NCAA Division II level football scholarship.
Becca Longo signed her acceptance letter with Division II Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, during a ceremony at her high school Wednesday.
The 18-year-old kicker, who started playing football during her sophomore year of high school, says she was completely shocked to find out that she was making history.
"I didn't know that until today," Longo told ESPN. "I'm still in shock from it. I'm just amazed."

Last season, Longo made an impressive 30 out of 33 extra point attempts, as well as connected on a 30-yard field goal.
Chandler Basha High School football coach Gerald Todd, who introduced Longo at the signing ceremony, said that sought advice on how to coach a girl from his older brother, Everett, an assistant coach at New Mexico University when Katie Hnida became the first female to score a point in an NCAA Division I-A football game
“How do you coach a girl?” Todd recalled asking his brother. “He said ‘I don’t coach girls. I coach football players.’ "
In addition to playing football, Longo will play on the womens’ basketball team for Adams State.
