Thailand police say a roadside bomb blast in the country’s restive southern region has killed four army rangers.

Authorities say five other rangers and a civilian were wounded in the explosion Friday in Pattani province.

The Muslim-majority border region has been racked by violence for more than a decade as ethnic Malay insurgents battle the government of Buddhist-majority Thailand for more autonomy.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
