Bomb Attacks Kill 46 in Iraq

A series of bomb attacks in Iraq has killed at least 46 people and wounded 65 others.

The deadliest blast Wednesday was a suicide bombing at a funeral in Buhriz, about 60 kilometers north of Baghdad, which killed at least 16 people.

In the capital, at least six car bombs exploded in mainly Shi'ite areas of the city.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks.

Violence in Iraq has reached a level not seen since 2008 when the country was emerging from a period of brutal sectarian killings between the country's Sunnis and Shi'ites.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Monday during a visit to Iraq that he was especially worried about the country's deteriorating security situation, and called on Iraqi leaders to address the root causes of the surge in violence.
