Chelsea Clinton announced on Thursday that she is pregnant with the first grandchild of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"Marc and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year," said Chelsea Clinton, 34, referring to her investment banker husband, Marc Mezvinsky, 36.
The comment came during a Clinton Global Initiative Fund event on empowering women.
She later thanked well wishers in a message on Twitter.
Clinton said regardless of whether she has a boy or a girl she feels "all the better (sic) that she or he will grow up in a world with so many strong female leaders" adding that she hoped to be as good of a mom as her mother, had been to her.
"My most exciting title yet: Grandmother-To-Be!'' Hillary Clinton commented on Twitter.
Former president also expressed joy about the news on Twitter saying "Excited to add a new line to my Twitter bio...grandfather-to-be! @HillaryClinton and I are so happy for Chelsea and Marc!''
Chelsea Clinton and husband Marc were married in July 2010. The news comes as Hillary Clinton is set to decide this summer on another presidential run.
In addition to serving as vice chair of her family's foundation, Chelsea Clinton is also involved in humanitarian endeavors worldwide, and serves as special correspondent for NBC news.
