Senior Israeli officials are in Turkey to discuss compensation for a deadly 2010 naval raid on a ship carrying aid to the Gaza Strip. Israeli commandos killed nine Turkish activists aboard the ship, which was trying toeach Gaza in defiance of an Israeli blockademeant to keep weapons from Hamas militants.
The meeting Monday in Ankara is part of an effort to restore diplomatic ties between Turkey and Israel, which became strained after the incident.
Turkey has demanded Israel apologize for the raid, provide compensation and end its restrictions against the Palestinians.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized last month in a telephone call to his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. U.S. President Barack Obama brokered the move during a visit to Israel.
